I Want Wednesday

This week seems like I'm in love with all things earth tones. I'm currently into anything beige or brown, especially today. I'll I've thought about all day is wearing this brown toned outfit I've had in mind, but never put it on because it's too darn cold... STILL! Anyways, hope you like my Wednesday wants this week.

1. Isn't this the cutest lunch kit? It's made from stackable ceramic bowls that seal with a cork lid. What's super cool too is that the lid doubles as a plate. I love that the design is a mix between a Japanese bento box and an Indian tiffin. I work from home so I have no need for this, but it definitely makes me wish I had to pack a lunch to go.

2. This tote is perfect for this lady! Again, the earth tone palette of this purse have stolen my heart. The lady big applique is so youthful and fun, without being to childish. I also think the tassel and key hanging off the strap are incredibly lust worthy.

3. OMGGGGG! I want this tea kettle and matching cups. They have such a unique look to them. These contemporary pieces are made from cork and ceramic; two materials I've never seen incorporated into glassware. What's also great about these babies is that they are on sale! Can't beat that.

I'm starting to get things together in my head for my Miami trip. I have been on an endless quest to find the perfect bikini, but have failed miserably. Have I mentioned to you guys before it's impossible to find a swim suit in Seattle? Well, I decided to make my own high waisted bikini bottoms. I had just enough left over black fabric from when I made my friend a bathing suit. I'm so happy it turned out nice because I made the pattern and didn't test it out before sewing the final bottoms. I ended up finding the red swim top at Target for like $17. I'm not exactly in love, but it's better than the other 8 year old bikini top I own.

Paper Covered Magnets DIY

Yesterday, I did this cute little guest DIY post over at the Threadesque blog. I thought I would share it with my lovely readers as well, but would like to recommend that you check out Threadesque, because it is quite a lovely blog!

These pretty paper covered magnets are such a fun and easy craft, which actually serve to be very useful in the end. You can use these to add a charming little touch to your fridge, and they're even cute enough to give away as favors or swag.

Supplies:
-Magnets
-Card stock
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Paintbrush
-Modge Podge

1. Trace around your magnet on to the wrong side of your patterned card stock. Slowly cut around the outside of the circle you traced. Make sure to use a lot of tiny cuts instead of a couple of long ones. 2. paint a tiny bit of Modge Podge on to your magnet. 3. Stick your paper circle on top of the magnet. Wait for the glue to dry, and then cut any excess paper off the edges to form a perfect circle. 4. Add a thin top coat of Modge Podge to your paper magnets. Wait for them to dry before using.

It also helped that she was the face of ♥Miu Miu's♥ 2011 ad campaign. She's another one of those amazing young actresses that you can't help but admire. Not just for her unbelievable talent, but also for her constant, heart-stirring ensembles.

DIY Fri: Spiral Notebook Revamp

I finally bought some new sketch pads to jot down ideas and designs in. I can't even tell you how long I've just been using random pieces of paper. Anyhow, I've been super busy trying to get a bunch of stuff done before I leave to Miami for a week, and kind of totally forgot about doing a DIY post. That was, until I got the idea to transform one of my new notebooks. I'm super happy with the results, and am even more excited that it motivates me to be more creative and actually want to use this book often.

Supplies:

-Notebook

-Assorted card stock

-Pencil

-Scrap paper

-Glue stick

-Scissors

-Lace

-Ruler

1. Open up the front cover of your notebook, and place on top of the wrong side of your card stock. Align the edge of your card stock with the edge of the holes where the spiral goes. Trace the outside of the book and then add 1/2" around the perimeter. 2. Cut your paper out and glue the card stock to the front of your notebook, aligning the edge of the paper with the edges of the holes again. 3. Flip the front notebook page over and fold the extra edges in like you would a present. Use your glue to secure down. After this step you may want to place a couple of book on top to press and seal the glue. 4. Practice your oval and silhouette bust on a piece of scrap paper until you like what you've got. Cut out both shapes and trace on to you card stock. I traced my silhouette bust backwards so the pencil markings would not show in the end. 5. Glue your cut out bust and oval(s) on to the front of the notebook. You may want to press it with a couple of book again for a bit. 6. Glue some lace to the edge of the notebook, making sure not to cover up the spiral holes.

I am sure that most of you are obsessed with Pinterest, like myself, and have a fixation with pinning anything that tickles your fancy. My Pinterest has so many boards it's kind of embarrassing, but I still find this website to be an amazing space saver for my computer. I recently started a new board called "I Wants," where I am starting to compile things I love and would consider purchasing, you know, if I feel into a butt-load of cash somehow. This actually gave me the idea for "I Want Wednesday," which I prefer over the frequently used "Friday favorites." Plus, I already have DIY Fri.. so it just made sense.

1. Have I mentioned to you guys that I am heading home for a vacay in Miami in March? Well, it's more like a week and a half, and not really "next month." I found these Hotel Bondi bathing suits at the beginning of this month while on a quest for the perfect swimsuit. I have considered purchasing one every day since I found them, but seeing as Seattle has about 2 months of summer and the water is always frigid, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Now, I wish I had because it's impossible to find any kind of bathing suit in the Northwest! Grrrr.

2. For some reason, I just can not get into heels. I have tried over the years, but I find myself drawn to flats and kitten heels exclusively. I love wedges, but the ones I own are literally about 1 - 2 inches in height. I am in love with these Steve Madden Wimzikul wedges tho, and want them badly! I love the color block wedge trend right now, and I mean, just look at them. With that pink and purple, and those little straps, gahhhh. So cute!

3. One object that I fancy more than anything else has to be teacups. I love tiny ones, big ones, vintage ones, new ones; honestly slap a teacup on anything and I will want it. It must be because I am an avid tea drinker, and believe a hot cup of the stuff can cure anything. Anyways, this stacked teacup bookshelf is just so lovely isn't it? I wish I had a bigger apartment so I could fit cute shelves like this in it.

4. I FINALLY upgraded my super old iPhone 3gs for a brand new iPhone4. My old one had so many problems with it, I'm very grateful for my boyfriend for pushing me to finally upgrade. I've been on a mission to find the perfect case, especially since I didn't even have one for my last phone. I keep coming back to this diy case by Connect Design. It's just so "me." I love the idea of it all, and think it's great you can change out the stitching. P.S. I'd love to hear advice on other sites, or places to find cute cases!

Why, hi there lovlies! Just a quickie outfit post for you on this lazy Sunday evening. I wore this outfit all weekend because it is just so darn cute. I love all the different tones of browns, and I especially like that wearing this cape is like adorning a fashionable blanket. I also finally got to wear my loafers and brown fishnet stalkings that have barely ever made it out of my closet. I just hope it starts to warms up a tad bit so I can start wearing more springy outfits like this.

I admire Emma Stone for so many different reasons. For starters, she is not your average Hollywood 20-something starlet. She's actually quite the opposite. She sports red hair, has a freckled face, and a deep raspy voice. Not to mention she's able to swing back and forth between an incredibly funny comedic actress, and a more serious, dramatic entertainer; both of which she executes surprisingly well. She also seems like an incredibly down to earth girl who's got her head on her shoulders, and won't unravel her success with nonsensical debauchery, like too many young stars do. She also happens to be a huge style inspiration for me personally. She was the main influence for my quick fling with red hair, and I always find myself drooling over her red carpet ensembles. I've never seen her look unkempt, and I bet she would look amazing in anything you put on her. I have a feeling she's going to be on my style radar for as long as shes in the limelight.

DIY Fri: Glitter & Suede Shoes

For the past couple of seasons glittery shoes have been all the rage. I've seen them on numerous celebs, and featured in countless fashion magazines. Tons of design labels (Miu Miu, Steve Madden, and Kimchi Blue to name a few) have also offered these pretty pumps for sale; and I must mention the oodles of tutorials floating around the blogosphere as well. There are some trends that you just have to jump on the bandwagon with, and this is one for me. However, I did not want to do the regular, played out glitter shoes d.i.y. So, I decided to incorporate micro-suede into mine to give it a little extra flare. I'm obsessed with the final product and can not wait to wear these out!

Inspiration

Materials:
-Old shoes (I bought ankle boots at Value Village)
-Container of glitter
-Clear drying decoupage glue
-Paint brush
-Clean drying fabric/craft glue
-Micro-suede or Suede
-Newspaper or other large paper
-Grocery bags
-Masking Tape
-Scissors
-Pen
-Thin Sharpie
-Empty container
-Felt (optional)

1. Wipe the outside of your shoes clean. I cut off the buckles that came on my shoes. Stuff the grocery bags inside to prevent glitter from entering. Lay down your newspaper on to your work surface for easier clean up. 2. Start to drape some felt (or suede) over your shoe to form whatever pattern you will like your suede to be. Tape on one side and smooth out over shoe, taping as you go, and marking the felt with any curves or designs with a pen. You may need to take off the felt, cut and shape, and then lay back on to get the correct shape and fit. When you are happy with the design, trace around the felt with a thin sharpie on to the shoe as a guide. 3. Tape off areas of sole you do not want covered. Pour some decoupage glue into your container and mix with some glitter. I like to have it kind of runny rather than too thick. Paint this mixture on to your shoe, making sure to avoid the micro-suede guidelines. I worked in sections, and saved the heel for very last. When you have a thin layer painted on, start to sprinkle the glitter onto the shoe. Make sure you do this over your paper!! Let dry completely before adding a second coat if needed. 4. Paint a thin layer of just decoupage glue over the glitter to seal it. Let dry before next step. 5. Use the felt, or suede, pattern you draped on your shoe earlier, and cut out the final micro-suede fabric. Starting at one side, apply a tiny bit of your fabric/craft glue to the edges of the micro-sued and apply to the shoe. Work slowly, and make sure to always smooth out the fabric. If your pattern is a little off, work with the material to make it fit. I had to pull at some points to make it long enough, and cut at some other to make it short enough to fit perfectly. 6. Carefully fill in the gaps around the micro-suede with your craft glue, and sprinkle more glitter on. When dry, finish your heel in the same method as previous steps.

Tips:

-You WILL have glitter all over your house. I kept my vacuum next to me and sucked up any stray glitter when I felt like it was getting out of hand.

-After every one or two sprinklings of glitter, use the paper you laid down to dump it back into your glitter bottle.

-Take your time on draping the micro-suede and making it fit properly. Tape it on and fix if not certain.

-Make sure not to get any glue on zippers or other openings that are crucial for wear.

-If you should ever need to touch up, just add some glue and sprinkle more glitter.

V Day After

Hello, hello, hello all you sweethearts! I hope you had a great Valentine's yesterday! Mine was a super insane, hectic day followed by a mellow and relaxing night. I didn't do anything too big because my boyfriend had work until late at night, and the power was turned off all day due to maintenance (ugh!!!) Since I wasn't able to work from home, I decided to finally get a haircut at the Aveda institute here. Much to my own surprise, I actually went through with chopping off all my lovely locks. I still can't believe I did it, and I'm still missing my long mane today. I also had them dye my hair back to it's original color, or at least as close as they could with the red it was. My natural hair is much lighter, but hopefully my trip to Miami next month can fix that.

Today was filled with sunshine, and the lingering idea of Valentines day. I finally took down my photoshoot decorations, I have a pile of pink and red garments waiting for me to reconstruct, and I still have glitter and heart confetti scattered everywhere. All that was missing was a half eaten box of chocolates!

I can't tell if it's absolutely weird that there's a few exceptional teen stars that I am kinda of obsessing over lately, or of it's natural due to their raw talent and remarkable fashion sense. Elle Fanning, which was my first style spotlight, Chloe Moretz, who is being showcased today, and Hailee Stienfeld, which trust me, I will be writing about in the future, have all stolen my heart. Chloe Moretz was the first of these teen stars that I was taken away with. I first saw her in Let Me In, in which she played a killer vampire stuck in a little girl's body. Her performance in that movie showcased her powerful acting capacity, as well as her unique beauty. I've seen her in various small roles since, and she always seems to portray her character perfectly. Not only is she absolutely talented, she's also got a sense of style that makes me drool. Moretz has shot countless fashion editorials, and is always an inspiration on the red carpet. I swear I'm even thinking about cutting my hair like hers. And man, she's only 15. You know this girl is going places.

DIY Fri: Vegan Red Velvet X O Cupcakes

I just made these babies for the valentines photo shoot I just had with some friends. I've never made red velvet before, and to tell you the truth, I can't even remember the last time I even ate it. I'm so happy I revisited this long lost treat, because these lil' cakes were yummy! I got the recipe for the cupcakes via Easy Vegan Meals, and mixed their frosting recipe with one I found at Becoming Lola.

Cupcake Ingredients:

-2 1/2 cups flour

-1 1/2 cups sugar

-1 tspn backing soda

-1 tspn salt

-1 tspn cocoa powder

-1 1/2 cups oil

-1 cup silk original creamer

-2 tbs egg replacer mixed w/ 6 tbs water

-1 tbs red food coloring

-1 tspn apple cider vinegar

-1 tspn vanilla extract

Frosting Ingredients:

-2 8 oz containers of Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese, softened

-2 sticks Earth Balance, softened
-1 tsp vanilla extract
-4 cups confectioners’ powdered sugar, sifted

-Red cinnamon imperials

-Ziplock bag

Cupcake Method:

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line muffin tins with cupcake liners.

-In a medium bowl, In a medium bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder. In a large bowl, mix the oil, Silk, prepared egg replacer, food coloring, vinegar and vanilla with an electric mixer. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the large bowl and beat until combined and smooth.

-Divide the batter evenly among the muffin tins (about 2/3 full). Bake in oven for 20-22 minutes, turning pans half way through. Test by sticking a toothpick in the center of a cupcake (should come out dry). Remove from oven and cool before frosting.

Icing Method:

-Beat the powdered sugar and butter together in the bowl of a stand mixer fit with a paddle attachment.

-Mix on medium-slow speed until it comes together and is well mixed.

-Add the cream cheese all at once and beat on medium to medium-high until incorporated.

-Turn the mixer to medium-high and beat for 5 minutes, or until the frosting becomes light and fluffy. Do not over-beat, as the frosting can quickly become runny.

-Put the icing into a ziplock bag and secure it shut. Snip the tip off the end and apply icing in a swirly motion. Lastly, add the cinnamon imperials on top to make x's and o's

Valentine's Photo Shoot Part 1

I've been m.i.a. for the past couple of days due to the V-day photo shoot I just did for Wear The Canvas. I made a super "prom" style set in my living room, and had a couple of friends over to play dress up with my stores' garments. This was the first little photo shoot I've done, and I can not wait to have another one! It was incredibly fun, and I surprisingly learned a lot from it. Deception Pass, I'm Sinking Fast

Yesterday, I visited Deception Pass for the first time. For those who don't know anything about deception pass, it's basically a narrow straight that separates two islands here in northwest Washington. I've wanted to see this pass, as well as the state park, ever since I heard the song Deception Pass by D+, many years ago. Well, now one of my sightseeing dreams has finally come true and I could not be happier. The water was so bright and swirly, and I was lucky enough to see seals swimming around. We even got to the state park just in time to watch a gorgeous sunset on the beach. This is an adventure I'd love to take again, and hopefully next time I can see more of the park.

Because of this, I have continued to lust over almost every ensemble I've seen her pictured in over the years. I respect the fact that she is always adorned in a cute, yet highly classy ensemble, which is something that allows her to stand out form the celebrity crowd. I have a feeling that Zooeys' style will continue to inspire and delight me personally, as well as capture the heart of many others.

DIY Fri: Cupid's Love Arrows

I've been wanting to make my own "arrows" for a while now. I finally decided to go through with making them because I thought they would be perfect props for my Valentine's Day photo shoot on Tuesday. They turned out pretty cute, and are surprisingly inexpensive and easy to make; which is always a good thing when it comes to DIY's.

Materials:

-sticks

-scissors

-puff paint

-paint & brush

-assorted colors of felt

-clear, fast drying craft glue

1. Select your stick, or cut it to desired size. Cut off any extra knobs or tiny branches, and make one end into a wedge. 2. Paint your stick. You will want to wait for the first coat to dry before applying the next one. You can experiment with lines or designs if you like. Apply puffy paint x's and o's last. 3. Make a paper heart template for the "arrow point", and cut out of felt. Glue both pieces together. 4. To create the feathers, cut half ovals from felt at your desired width and length. Take each half oval, and cut downward notches on the rounded side to make it look like a feather's edge. 5. When your stick is completely dry, glue your heart to the end that you made into a wedge. 6. Apply a line of glue to the straight edge of the feather and glue to the back end of the stick. Continue with each feather.

Yesterday was another dull, dreary day in Seattle. My boyfriend and I lazily started the day by running a couple of errands, and then we took a fun little drive around Madrona, which is a super beautiful neighborhood by Lake Washington. I love driving around Madrona because I someday want to live in one of those huge NorthWestern Style homes with an amazing view. It's also a good way to find cute little parks. These pictures were actually taken across the street from one of those awesome tiny parks.

DIY Fri: Peter Pan Collar Applique

This is a super simple DIY that will allow you to transform any plain old t-shirt into a cute peter pan collar top.

Supplies:
-t-shirt
-fabric
-shank button
-iron-on interfacing
-sewing machine
-thread
-scissors
-straight pins
-paper
-pencil

1. Mark the center of the front collar with a pin. Lay your shirt down flat and trace the neckline and should seam. Then, make a rough sketch of how you want your collar to look. Smooth out lines and cut out. 2. Fold both your fabric and interfacing in half. Pin the collar pattern piece on top of the fabric, and cut out to make two mirror image pieces. Do the same for the interfacing. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the collar pieces. 3. Pin the collar pieces to your top, lining up center front. Sew along the edges of the collar appliques using a zig-zag stich. You may have to stop and adjust every now and then to prevent unwanted tucks or puckering. I like to sew around the edge twice to secure. Press with an iron. 4. Hand sew on your shank button at center front.

Yesterday, the power was off all day at my apartment due to maintenance. Seeing as I work from home, I ventured out to downtown Seattle to waste some time. While walking by the waterfront I spotted an interesting looking antique shop called Seattle Antique Market. I'm still so surprised that I have not heard, or discovered more things around town in the year that I have lived here. Anyways, I'm really excited I found this place because it has a huge collection of oddities and collectibles. I spent over an hour just digging through all the stuff they've collected at this shop. I ended up getting a couple of postcards and prints shown in the last pic. If you like antiques and are ever in the Seattle area, this is a must see shop.

My boyfriend and I make banana bread on a regular basis. It's a great way to use up rotting bananas, and makes a perfectly scrumptious treat! I've been making one type of banana bread for many years, so much so, that I know the recipe by heart. I originally found this amazing recipe in this vegetarian cooking book I used to have, and modified it to my liking. I just made a batch of it, which was the perfect cure for an awful rainy Sunday.

Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 6 tbs. oil
- 4 bananas
-6 oz. chocolate chips

Directions:
-Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
-In a large bowl sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using) together.
-In a separate, medium sized bowl mash the bananas until goopy.
-Mix the oil and brown sugar in with the mashed bananas.
-Make a well in the middle of your flour mix, pour in the banana-sugar-oil puree, and mix well.
-Fold in the chocolate chips.
-Pour the dough into a greased bread pan and bake for about 25 minutes, or until lightly browned and a knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Yesterday, I wrote about how I'm loving the new floral trend for hair. Immediately after posting I was on a quest to find the perfect flower hair clip for myself. I have this idea of wearing my hair in a half fishtail crown, and balancing the hairstyle out with a big, romantic flower. I searched for hours and didn't find anything that really tickled my fancy, at least in my price range. I thought it would be fun to make one for my DIY post, but seeing as we're snowed in for the time being, I was not able to make it the store to buy fabric. So, I'm just sitting here and dreaming of these possible flower cluip d.i.y.'s.

I was positive that it would not snow this winter. Weather reports have threatened snowfall a couple of times, but I was trying to stay optimistic about an early spring. I'm so over wearing coats and pants, and am ready for a bikini and some sun! Even though it pretty much hasn't stopped snowing for two days, it makes me extremely happy to play with my pup in the snow. It's also nice to have a lazy Sunday snuggled up on my couch.

DIY Fri: Easy Ear Muffs

These earmuffs are insanely easy to make, and can be customized in a variety of ways. Just imagine how perfect these would be with super fluffy, fuzzy fabric on the outside! I'd love to experiment a bunch with rosettes and ribbons, or even just plusher materials. I'm definitely making more of these, especially since I glued the ear pieces on these a little too high up.

Materials:
-Headband
-Fabric (one fleece, one other)
-Fabric Glue
-Sewing Machine
-Polyfil Stuffing
-Ruler

1. Cut out your fabric pieces. You will need one to cover the headband; it should be headband width x 2 + 1/4" for give +1/2" seam allowance. My headband was 1/2" wide, so I made my piece 1" + 3/4" wide (and very long.) You'll also need two circles that are about an inch bigger than your ears. I traced a wide mouthed cup for mine. 2. Sew your rectangle piece at 1/2" seam allowance, trim excess, and flip inside out. Then, slide over your headband. 3. Sew your two sets of circles, placing the right sides of fabric together. Leave an opening about 1/2". Notch the seam allowance, making sure not to cut through the thread; then cut off excess. 4. Flip inside out and press with an iron. 5. Stuff with a tiny bit of polyfil stuffing. 6. Place the circles onto the ends on the headband with the fleece towards the inside. Look in the mirror and measure their placement. Then glue the hole shut around and on to the headband. Move the stuffing around a bit to even out.

I'm so excited to be adding a new section/label to my blog, entitled beauty. There was a long while where I was not really putting much effort into my appearance; at least hair and make up wise. I repeatedly wore very natural makeup and straight, unstyled hair. Then I decided to pull myself out of the rut when I realized makeup and hair is just as much a part of style and fashion as clothes are. Duh!!! There are a few products I've tried recently that I have fallen deeply in love with, and am dying to tell you about.

1. Rosebus Salve. There have been many times where I've tried this lip balm out and loved it, but never bought my own. That is, until recently. I'm so happy I finally bought my own. It smells beautiful and feels even nicer.

2. Goody Mini Bobby Pins. I want you to know that I have the world's finest hair. Sure, straight hair is easy to deal with, and baby softness can be a blessing, but these are more of a curse than a grace. I don't know about you, but it can take hours to try to style my hair simply because nothing holds, especially normal bobby pins. This is why I'm obsessed with these babies. Not only are they about half the size of a normal bobby pin, but they are very hard to open. They are perfect for my limp, lifeless hair. FYI, the link I found lists them as $14, but you can get them at a local drug store for around $5.

3. Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Shampoo. I've heard both good and bad things about dry shampoo, which is why I was so reluctant to try it out at first. I really can't believe I waited so long. This stuff is a life saver! SG's dry shampoo really is invisible, so there's no messy powder residue. It soaks up oil, and adds texture to lifeless tresses. Not to mention this brand is super affordable, and even comes in a travel size.

DIY Fri: Glitter Statement Necklace

Inspiration

This past week on Modern Family, I saw the gorgeous Sofia Vergara wearing this chunky gold necklace, and instantly fell in love. I have a huge crush on everything glitter lately, and this is just another sparkly thing I had to make for myself. I spent a couple hours searching for the designer/label, but still haven't uncovered the source.

Materials:

-Old cereal box, or similarly thin cardboard

-Decoupage glue

-Small paint brush

-Glitter

-Clear jewelry thread or fishing line

-Jewelry clasp/closure

-Craft glue (you know I love Fabri-Tac)

1. Make oval templates on paper in three different sizes, trace on to cardboard, and cut out. I used six ovals 2.25 x 1.5 inches, eight ovals 1.75 x 1.25 inches, and four ovals 1.5 x .75 inches big. 2. Mix the decoupage glue with a butt-load of glitter in a bowl, then paint the glue-glitter mixture onto half of the cardboard ovals. Make sure to lay it on thick but not too chunky, and top it off by sprinkling glitter on top. Wait for it to dry, tap off glitter, and repeat if necessary. Put one solid coat of decoupage paint on top to seal. 3. Flip the glittered pieces over and arrange how you want your necklace. Glue pieces of your clear jewelry thread to the backs of the glittered pieces so that each one connects to the other. Make sure to keep them butted up to one another, and to leave long pieces at the end 4. Glue the other half of the cardboard pieces to the back of the ones with glitter, making sure the solid brown is on the outside. When dry, hold it up to your neck and measure how long the end pieces should be. Tie them off to the jewelry clasp a couple times to secure. 5. Enjoy your new sparkly and bold necklace!

DIY Fri: Vintage Inspired Velvet Bow Fascinator

I've been admiring vintage bow headbands for a while now. Unfortunately, I haven't been swift enough to snatch one up from Etsy before someone else has. I've even ventured out to local vintage stores in hopes of finding one of these fascinator treasures, until I finally came to the conclusion that I just had to make one myself. It was surprisingly easy! I used vintage/pre-loved items, but you can use new materials if you prefer.

Inspiration:

Materials:
-Velvet Fabric
-Hair Comb
-Ruler
-Pen
-Quick Drying Fabric Glue (I use Fabri-tac)
-Needle
-Thread

Cut three rectangles from your velvet fabric. One 4 inches wide by 12 inches long, one 4 inches wide by 16 inches long, and one 1.5 inches wide by 5 inches long. *These lengths can very if you like depending on your personal preference.

Take the 4 inch by 12 inch rectangle and mark a dot in the middle 1 inch up on both sides. Using the ruler connect the dot to the end corners.

Cut out the triangle on both sides.

Take the 4 inch by 16 inch rectangle and fold the ends to meet at the middle. Glue the ends overlapping about half an inch to form a loop.

Place the tubular piece on top of the pointy piece as shown above, making sure the overlapped glued part is on the bottom. When placement is perfect, add three dots of glue (two outer, one center) to secure the loop to the pointy piece.

Scrunch up the middle piece to form a bow, using tiny dots of glue to glue into place. Hold firmly until it has dried.

Glue the smallest piece of fabric around the bow and bottom

Hand stitch the hair comb to the center of the bow.

One of the many great things about December is the joy I get from watching holiday movies. It always seems no matter how sad or hopeless a holiday movie starts out, it always ends in high spirits; and I'm a sucker for "happily ever after." There are certain movies I watch every year like some sort of getting ready for Christmas ritual. While You Were Sleeping is one movie I had forgotten about for years, until recently. I've already watched this romantic comedy two times this month, and will definitely keep watching it for December's to come.

My two favorite charters in the film are the kooky grandmother and the younger sister in the family. They both strike me as the fashionable ones of the film, and are both funny and charming with their silly carefree attitudes. The grandmother's style especially makes me giddy. With her hair bows and hats, chunky pearls, and retro camera, I would just love to end up being a grandmother like her.

Growing up I was always told to take care and respect paper. Books weren't for throwing, writing in, or tearing, and unwanted publications of all sorts, as well as all miscellaneous scrap paper, was always to be recycled correctly. I suppose this is one reason that I am an avid recycler and admirer of all vintage publications. This must also be why my heart skipped a beat when I saw the work of Jennifer Collier. Collier focuses on creating every day objects from recycled paper. By bonding, waxing, trapping, and stitching she creates a paper-like fabric in which she makes each item from. All I can say is that after how long and difficult it was for me to make that paper atlas dress, I admire her incredibly and have outrageous appreciation for her work.

DIY Fri: Neon Rope Bracelet

All I can say is "Thank God it's Friday!" Am I right, or am I right? Not only is the glorious weekend ahead of is, but Friday also means it's time for another installment of DIY Fri. This week I've got a super easy neon rope bracelet for you. I originally wanted to do a different project, but changed my mind last minute. I had the urge to do something that allowed me to use some random supplies I had in my craft closet. This tutorial has actually made me appreciate how much of a pack rat I am. I just knew I was going to use that rope and key chain holder one of these days.

Inspiration:

I pulled inspiration from one for the hottest trends right now; neon. I also was very inspired by this Proenza Schouler rope bracelet.

Materials:

-Carabiner for Keys

-Window Tie Back Rope

-Assorted Embroidery Floss

-Fabric/Craft Glue (make sure it is strong/clear/fast drying. I use Fabri-tac.)

Measure your window curtain rope to the length that feels comfortable around your wrist and cut. This type of rope has twisted cords, so they may unravel. Use a little bit of your fabric glue to glue them in place.

Starting at one end of your carabiner key chain, dab a bit of glue and start wrapping your preferred color of embroidery floss around it. Every couple of wraps add a tiny bit more glue to keep in place. Make sure you wrap enough to cover the entire carabiner color. You can also skip this step if you get a colored carabiner that you like.

Glue different colors of embroidery floss following the cracks on the rope. Using a small amount of glue makes it much easier to work with.

Glue the ends of your rope. One should be attached to the carabiner, and the other should be glued in a loop.

The last step is to wrap the rope bracelet with more embroidery floss, using the same method when you wrapped your carabiner. You can do any colors or designs you like; the possibilities are endless! *Tip- Wrapping the ends where you made the loops makes for a clean, beautiful finish!

Sorry for my crappy modeling photos. I got side tracked with thrifting for a holiday dress, and came home late only to remember that I had to finish this DIY! Whoops...I just wish I snapped a pic of only the front.

DIY Fri: Faux Porcelain Vase

Materials:

-Recycled Bottle or Jar

-White Puff Paint

-White Spray Paint

Method:

1. Remove all labels completely and clean your bottle or jar. I used a recycled brown beer bottle. Make sure it is completely dry and clean before the next step.

2. Using your puffy paint, draw shapes and designs on to your bottle.

3. When puffy paint is entirely dry, coat your bottle with spray paint. Spray it in sections, moving on to the next section once it is dry. You will also want to make sure you don't spray too close to your project, and to not add too many coats at one time.

-Tip: A clear bottle may be easier to work with. It took my brown bottle a bunch of coats to cover the color.

-Tip: I used matte white spray paint, but you may want to experiment with a semi or glossy paint.

Another cold and damp day, another cozy and comfy outfit. Today, I wore my favorite sweater that I actually find myself wearing multiple times a week. It's a lightweight wool cardigan that has native american scenery on it. I picked it up at a naked lady party, and is my ultimate free find! I've also got on my dad's super old t-shirt that is incredibly comfy to wear, a vintage polka dot skirt, and my new lined stockings. I didn't even know they made them lined, but now my life is changed!

Cranberry Ginger Frizz Cocktail

1. Bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan, stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; pour off all but one cup of syrup, reserving any extra for another use.

2. Heat the syrup to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Add the cranberries and simmer for 2-3 minutes until they just begin to burst. Remove from heat and let cool in syrup.

3. Place 2 Tablespoons drained cranberries and 6 Tablespoons cranberry syrup in a large pitcher; add the lemon wedges and orange slices.

4. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, vigorously mash the fruit.

5. Stir in gin and let steep for at least 5 minutes.

6. Strain into a medium pitcher.\

7. Fill 4 glasses with crushed ice and 1/4 cup ginger ale.

8. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then pour half the cranberry mixture into the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds, strain liquid into two glasses. Repeat.

9. Mound additional ice on top of each glass and garnish with 3 candied cranberries and a mint sprig.

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that is all about relaxing with family and friends, and of course, stuffing your face with enormous amounts of food. Even though it's a holiday where in general everyone is lazy and hanging at home, dressing the part is just as important on that day; especially if attending turkey day festivities. Here are a few tips on how to dress for Thanksgiving without sacrificing comfort.

1. Dress comfortably. There's a lot of sitting around on Thanksgiving as well as a lot of eating. And, don't forget that there's usually children running around that you can play with. Dressing comfortably is one way to help your day stay enjoyable. Opt for elastic waistbands, shift dresses, or knit clothing. Dressing in stylishly loose sweaters or pants with some stretch can also help.

2. Adorn yourself in medium to dark colors. You don't have to dress like you're going to a funeral, but wearing darker colors will help with any food that may happen to find it's way onto your outfit. Cranberry sauce, wine, and chocolate are the usual suspects, but you must not forget about gravy, sweet potatoes, and pie! Browns, crimson reds, and deep oranges are colors that may help you fight of those unwanted messes.

3. Stay cozy. After dinner walks are the norm around the holidays. After all, it is one of the best ways to digest your food and not make you feel so bloated. Layering is a great way to stay warm while working off the food you just consumed. You can wear sweaters over long sleeve button ups with cozy jackets. Keep your paws warm with mittens and your head snug with a hat, and don't forget to wear shoes your can walk in!

4. Add a festive touch. If you've opted to be super comfortable on Thanksgiving day, spice up your outfit with a festive embellishment. This can be anything from a broach, to a headband, or even a piece of jewelry. Stick with a general autumn theme if you are not one for blatantly obvious holiday accessories.

I'm finding it harder and harder to dress cute as the temperature keeps dropping. I'm in critical need of winter clothing and warm comfy shoes. I honestly don't know how I survived last year when I owned zero sweaters, jackets, scarves, etc. It's so hard to switch from a warm, sunny tropical climate to a cold and gloomy temperate one!

I'm going to Philly next week for Thanksgiving and I get to see my niece for the first time in over a year. I've made plush dolls for my other niece, Joslynn, who is now 9 years old, and thought it was about time to start making something for Campbell, who is still a toddler. I created this lil' merdoll from scratch. It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I still think it's a cutie.

DIY Fri: Sweet & Savory Chocolate Bark

I remember the first time I ever had chocolate bark. Not only was I amazed by the way it looked, but also by it's incredibly yummy taste. From my first bite of that chocolaty goodness I was hooked. Now, it's that time of year when chocolate bark starts popping up everywhere, which makes me so happy and excited. I haven't had candy bark in a couple of years and thought I should make a little to satisfy my craving. I decided to go with a sweet and savory flavor instead of the tradition peppermint or nut barks.

Ingredients:

10 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips

*1/8 cup toasted bread crumbs

*1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Method:
Melt the chocolate using a double boiler method. While the chocolate is melting, toast the bread crumbs in the oven until they are lightly toasted. Line a 9 x 12 inch (or, I used a 10 x 7 inch pan) with wax paper making sure that it over laps the side by 2 inches. You can tape the wax paper to the sides of the pan to keep it in place. Spread the melted chocolate evenly into the pan and then sprinkle the bread crumbs and salt on top. Allow to set for a couple hours before eating. I cute mine, but you can hand break them if you want a more organic look.

*I used Ener-G bread crumbs and cooking sea salt and it tastes just as yummy but, if you want a more dramatic look you can use Panko bread crumbs and coarse sea salt.

I just saw the movie trailer for My Week With Marilyn Monroe, which is due to release in theaters next week on the 23rd. I was both excited and curious to see the trailer once I heard about the film. I must admit, I don't know much about the personal life of Marilyn Monroe, which may be the reason I was so enthralled to watch the preview. I have to say though, I didn't think it was not all that. I just feel for the style and sex icon that she was, and still is, they could have made a movie with such a better plot. Even though this movie is based on a true story, maybe the height of her career or even the end of it, would have made for a better flick. Nonetheless, I'm sure I'll still watch it, mostly for Emma Watson, and possibly my mind will change. I'd lve to know if you've seen the trailer, and what you think!

I love this dress so much, yet haven't worn it in forever! I had forgotten how much I love it until I slipped it back on. I reconstructed the dress from a humongous maternity garment I thrifted. I shortened the hem, sewed down the bust pleats, added a band of paisley fabric to the waist, and stenciled a sewing machine on the side. I'll definitely need to start wearing this baby more often!
